Keeping Our Planet Pristine – The Argument for Organic Products
Taking care of our planet is something that is on everyone’s mind these days. Each day, consumers are looking for ways they can do their part to help the environment, while still living a satisfying life. There are many ways we can achieve this goal, but for most people, it’s about changing lifestyle. This means that we are changing the very core of who we are, right down to what we buy and where we shop. Below are some of the biggest reasons you should buy organic and sustainable goods.
Organic products use no harsh chemicals. If for no other reason than this one, you should look into purchasing organic. Many agricultural commodities that we use every day are the biggest source of environmental damage. In the process of cultivating everything from food to cotton, harsh chemicals are polluting our soil, ground water, and our tributaries and oceans from runoff. Organic products are grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, so they make no negative impact on the planet.
Organic products help increase air quality. An essential function of plants is their ability to consume carbon dioxide, while emitting oxygen. Of course, we humans do the exact opposite. Just as a sick person can spread disease, so can plants grown in contaminated soil. Organically grown items are doing more for our air quality by putting more oxygen back into our atmosphere, while sparing us the extra pollutants. Additionally, crop dusters aren’t used at organic farms, which decreases the amount of chemicals put directly in the air for the sake of industry.
Organic products keep consumers healthier. Healthier consumers live longer. Buying and consuming products that contain no chemicals or harsh unnatural additives will help to increase your life span. Why would you even consider buying unnatural products coated in carcinogenic chemicals and pesticides to put in or on your body? Most people who don’t buy organic haven’t truly considered the ramifications of supporting businesses that are willing to poison them to keep making money.
Organic products help keep our environmental impact to a minimum, all while helping maintain an ethical method of doing business. There is no reason for us to continue supporting practices that harm us as human beings. We will always need to buy things as consumers, but putting money in the hands of those who want to help makes much more sense than giving it to those who have contributed so much to the damage we are now trying to repair.
